The Craft and Community
Kharad Weaving is a kind of unique weaving technique. This craft was practiced by a few families of Marwada Meghwal and Sodha Rajput communities.
Traditionally, Kharad was used by desert communities as a floor covers in winter. This craft was broadly practiced throughout the Rann of Kachchh but due to declining local market as well availability of raw material this craft is disappearing. Because of that many artisans who were practicing this craft have transfer to another work. Today there is only one family left who is continuing this craft even though many challenges.
